CONSULTANT PROFILE

I have been working in the IT industry and the IBM Midrange product line for more than 25 years.  I have been responsible for the full range of IT development cycle activities; systems analysis, project management and programming through implementation, documentation and training. My management responsibilities included staff management.  My programming experience includes providing support for legacy applications and systems including software and hardware conversions, upgrades and enhancements to leverage an historical database.

Along with my technical and programming skills, I communicate well and strive to develop good rapport with both management and end users.  I am dedicated to providing the end user with a product that meets their functional requirements.  I have a strong work ethic and I strive to provide practical and professional results for my customers.

Career highlights and accomplishments:

  1. My first major responsibility was to manage the conversion of all batch processing, OCL and RPGII programs from an IBM System 3/15D to a System/38 for the Stryker Corporation in Kalamazoo, MI.  We completed the conversion 2 months ahead of schedule.

  1. I became senior programmer/analyst and subsequently IT Operations manager for the Bill Knapps’ Company, a privately owned, Midwestern restaurant chain.  I developed and maintained custom applications for Profit Sharing, Direct-Deposit Payroll, Inventory Control, Bill of Material, MRP, Purchasing, Point-of-Sales data analysis as well as supporting many other custom coded applications.

  1. My IT Operations Manager responsibilities included managing a staff of 3 local staff members and providing 24/7 support for equipment and communications in remote commissary locations in 3 states.  During this period I shared responsibility for the conversion from a System/38 D to the AS/400.

  1. Since starting Midwest Integrated Systems Resources, Inc. (MISR) in January 1993 with my business partner, David Dunfield, we have had the opportunity to provide IT support and training to many companies in a variety of industries.  One of our more challenging projects involved a 15-month Y2K conversion for an insurance claims processing company, Health Risk Management (HRM now CBCA).  I developed a search and scan “de-compiler” system in RPG ILE to analyze source code (CL, RPGIII, RPGIV, RPGILE) to identify field usage, determine where-used and aliases.

  1. Since January 2000, we have become involved with the LANSA product line as business partners and developers.  I developed a LANSA application for the City of Portage, MI, which was awarded the “Innovative Park Resource Award” in 2004 by the Michigan Parks and Recreation Association.

Designed, developed, deployed and trained staff to use a comprehensive set of Visual LANSA applications that integrated with and enhanced the functionality of the HTE (governmental applications packaged software) Work Order system for the City of Portage, Michigan.  This project included a wireless laptop interface for the Streets Department and a PDA interface for the Parks & Recreation departments.  The City of Portage Parks and Recreation department won the Innovative Parks Resource Award from the Michigan Recreation and Parks Association for the PDA project in 2004.

Features include a wireless interface for “standalone-and-synch” data exchange using LANSA Integrator for both PDA and laptop PC devices.  The new functionality provides staff the ability to record work order data while in the field and transmit it to the iSeries when in communications range.

Additional functions included providing Windows interfaces for packaged green-screen maintenance, specialized analysis and reporting features.  This application required an intimate knowledge of the functioning of the packaged software, importing over 150 HTE files into LANSA, as well as the creation and interfacing of over 20 LANSA files, with appropriated logicals, predetermined join fields, access routes, virtual fields, rules and triggers, etc. Over 80 VL components, many reusable parts, LANSA Processes and Functions were needed to support file synchronization and application function.  The following development tools were used:

    1. LANSA
    2. Visual LANSA
    3. LANSA Integrator
